Book Review

2019 Wrap-Up

It’s the last day of 2019! I don’t have an extensive post planned, but I do want to go through a quick couple of bookish things!

In this last year, I have no actual idea of how many books I read, but I do know that it wasn’t a… large amount. I struggled with finding the time to read, but at least I read a little?

I kicked off the year with Sky in the Deep (you can find my discussion of it here). I liked the book a lot, even though there were a couple of things that didn’t quite sit right with me. I’ll definitely read it again, probably before I read The Girl the Sea Gave Back. It wasn’t a bad way to start off my year.

Along the way, I read a few books, one of which was Mirage (with my discussion here), and also the Gone series (which I LOVED btw). Then I read We Are Okay by Nina LaCour. I didn’t do a post about it… I got kind of lazy with my discussions… but this book was incredible. I can’t remember crying so easily whilst reading, and the sense of belonging that this book left me with was indescribable. When I read it again, which I definitely will, I’ll make sure to actually compile my thoughts and emotions into a logical post.

My most notable read after We Are Okay was the duology Warcross and Wildcard by Marie Lu. I absolutely loved this world so much, and I can’t wait to read more books written by this marvelous woman (Legend?? Am I right, or am I right? I need to get my hands on that series).

I had hoped to end my year by finishing Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo, but alas… time did not allow. However, I can think of worse things than starting off my new year with Kaz and Inej (my favorite characters so far).

As for next year, I’d like to make more time for reading. I’ve started putting together my 2020 tbr, but who knows if I’ll be able to finish it. I certainly don’t. I don’t have 2020 vision.

ANYWHO!

I’m going to sign off this post with some notable life events of 2019:

  • I graduated with my Bachelor’s degree
  • I went to Aruba with my sister (and I STILL haven’t posted photos… wow Lucy)
  • My brother and I were in a car accident
  • I literally flew to Texas to buy a new car (and I love it to pieces)
  • I started working too much
  • I’m still working too much
  • I found a figure skating coach and have learned more in the last couple of months than I imagined possible
  • I moved out (and found this ADORABLE little home!)

I’m not really one for New Year’s Resolutions, but I will say this. I want to OWN this year. I want to make it mine, and make it work in my favor. I don’t know how I’m going to do that yet, but that doesn’t matter. I’ll take it a day at a time, find goals where I can (but not force any on myself). No matter what comes my way, I’m going to make this year a good one, and I challenge all of you to do the same!
