My Writing:

“Chin up, Princess, or else your crown will fall,” the lady in waiting said as she did up the back of the princess’s corset. “And you don’t want ‘Him’ to pick it up.”

Princess Amelia glared at the woman helping her, but stuck her chin up anyway, jutting it out with a bit of attitude. Eridora, the lady in waiting, let out a small laugh and tied off the back of the corset before grabbing a light blue dress. Princess Amelia dutifully lifted her arms and a wave of ruffles cascaded over her head.

“I don’t see why ‘He’ gets to wear pants, and I have to wear this heavy, hot, mess,” the princess whined, prompting Eridora to laugh again.

“It’s customary for princesses to wear dresses to balls,” Eridora said kindly, fastening up the back of the blue dress before leaning over to grab a hairbrush. “Besides. You want to please your father. He’s the one that’ll be making the final decision on who gets the crown.”

Princess Amelia rolled her eyes. “I don’t see why I had to be born with a twin.”

“You certainly liked your brother just a couple of hours ago.”

“Yeah, but then he purposefully tripped me to win our race!” Amelia retorted. “I don’t see why he had to do that!”

Eridora shook her head, smiling lightly as she finished brushing the princess’s hair. “You sure don’t seem to see a lot of things.”

“Well, a lot of things aren’t clear enough to see!”

With a laugh, Eridora placed a dainty string of pearls around Amelia’s neck. “In any case, you are ready.”

Amelia sighed and turned to her lady in waiting, quickly wrapping her arms around the woman. “Do you really think he’ll get the kingdom?” she asked, her voice falling into soft and timid patterns. Eridora sighed and returned the embrace, gently running her fingers across Amelia’s shoulders.

“I don’t know, Princess, but I do know that you are strong enough to be any kingdom’s leader,” Eridora said softly, pulling back to give Amelia an encouraging smile.

“So, keep your chin up and wear your strength with pride.”
