Book Review

she felt like feeling nothing

This Post is Spoiler Free!

Okay… So I recently impulsively bought she felt like feeling nothing by r.h. Sin (and yeah, that’s how the title and author name is capitalized on the cover because poetry). I wasn’t even at a bookstore. I was in a small little indie shop buying candles (I have a real candle buying problem I think… ). Long story short, I bought the book with the candles, and I read it. I like to give poetry books a shot every once in a while, even though I’m not the biggest fan of poetry (it’s a long story). This book was alright.

I should have expected from the title that the majority of the poems would be about breaking up. I was hoping for a little more exploration of deeper emotions, but for the most part, it was very topical.

That being said, there were a few poems I liked. Particularly: “4:54:44p.m.,” “the raising of self.,” “for once.,” “aperture.,” “scene sixteen.,” and “you are, you are.”

I don’t have much else to say. Normally my impulse buys are Five Star reads, but this left quite a bit to be desired. I probably won’t be reading it again. Though, I will say… if you are going through a breakup and you need to be reminded of your own self-worth (and you like poetry), this might be a book you want to look into.

How do you feel about poetry? What’s your favorite poem?

I really like poetry.. in small doses. By that I mean I can read maybe two or three collections a year. I completely blame secondary school for that! Sorry this wasn’t a fave. <3

Ps- I also have a candle buying problem. They just smell so good!
