Book Review

The Picture of Dorian Gray

This Post is Spoiler Free!

Here’s the thing. I am not a fan of reviewing classics (it reminds me of school, which was a period in my life where I genuinely wasn’t loving reading or writing). But I’ve been reviewing every book I’ve read this year, so I will do the same with The Picture of Dorian Gray, though the review will be short. Basically, I read this book because I have a really close friend who shared the soundtrack with me and made me want to watch the movie, Dorian Gray with Ben Barnes (really, I’ll watch anything with Ben Barnes). The only problem is that I really, really dislike watching a movie that I know is based on a book yet haven’t actually read said book.

So, I read the book.

I liked the book.

The book was really good, actually. It was definitely a classic, with all of the fancy language of a classic, where the characters waxed poetic for extremely long paragraphs, and you had to constantly be looking down at the footnotes… but I really did enjoy it! It was decently short, had some pretty great quotes, and I definitely felt things for the characters—pity for one, sorrow for another, and disgust for the third. I love it when I hate a character! Honestly, it will be going on my reread shelf!

I’ll leave it at this. Let me know if you’ve read this? Did you enjoy it? What are some other classics that you love and recommend?
