The Wicked Deep

This post is spoiler free!

One of the books I read recently was The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw. To put it simply… I picked this book up and didn’t put it down until it was finished. I didn’t even put it down to make my dinner! I held it in my left hand whilst stirring my pasta with my right! And when I finally did put it down (you know, after reading the last page), I stared off into space for a few minutes.

The verdict? I loved this book. I mean, I’m holding a tiny grudge against it because it made me stay up past my bedtime, but the book was so good that my grudge is tiny. Teensie Tiny!

This book is in the Paranormal Fiction genre, and I haven’t read very many of those, so it was a little bit of a new thing for me. New is good, though, and boy was this book good. Have I mentioned that I loved this book? It had one of those plot twists that I called, but guessing the plot twist didn’t cheapen the plot at all. It only strengthened it. There was just enough guessing that it kept me on my toes, and just enough foreshadowing that it felt like the plot twist was completely and totally plausible.

AND THE ENDING WAS MY FAVORITE TYPE OF ENDING! I won’t spoil it, but it wasn’t one of those endings where everyone gets their way and everything is perfect and nothing is even the slightest bit believable (these endings are super common and I hate them). It had just the right amount of tragedy and pain while still being a relatively happy ending.

Form wise, I loved how Shea Ernshaw put in those little page long inserts that weren’t told by the main character, but definitely related to her story. It was a really nice way to keep the overall pacing of the book up.

Long story short, I loved this book, and I’ll be rereading it again someday. 10/10 would recommend!
