Things a Book Dragon Might Do in Winter
Winter has come. At least, it has for me. I actually just put together a competition for my work place challenging all of the corporate employees to spend as much time outside in the snow as possible. Anything active counts: Skiing, Snowboarding, Snow Shoeing, Sledding, Tubing, Ice Climbing, Ice Skating, Ice Fishing… the list goes on and on.
Creating this competition made me realize that I don’t do much in the way of active winter activities (aside from ice skating, but I’ve never done that outside).
I’m more of a bookish adventurer as opposed to a typical adventurer. However, that leads to some relaxing, fun, and… rather strange winter activities. I thought I’d list a few out for y’all!
The List:
1. Read by the fire. This is such a classic book lover thing to do, it’s almost a cliché. But who cares? Curling up with the heat of the fire, a fuzzy blanket (and maybe some fuzzy socks), a cup of hot chocolate, and a good book? Nothing could be better. Unless you have a companion… a pet, a sibling, a parent, a best friend, or a partner. Mutual, silent companionship is always a great addition!
2. Stare out at the falling snow and play scenes through their head. Anyone who reads a lot of stories ends up catching themselves just… playing through scenes in their head. Sometimes, the scenes belong to their current read, or maybe their own work in progress, but it is bound to happen sometime, and there is no better facilitator than gently falling snow.
3. Light Candles. Once again, we are back to the relaxing flicker of fire. To be perfectly honest, I don’t know many book lovers who don’t love candles. I don’t know what it is… maybe a sense of danger? Like, a sedentary lifestyle is common when one mostly just explores via books, and maybe we like playing with fire because it could destroy our books? Wait… can someone explain this to me?
4. Wish to be at Hogwarts. Anyone? Or is that just me?
5. Wish to visit Narnia. Come on. I KNOW I’m not the only one.
6. Honestly to just go into any bookishly winter world. It’s really a no brainer…
7. Take artsy photos of books with Christmas/Fairy lights. If you need an example, go to my Instagram. That’s my entire theme at the moment!
8. Take artsy photos of books in the snow. I always put a piece of paper towel in between the book and the snow just because I’m afraid of *shudder* water damage.
9. Wade through snow just to take artsy photos of books. It is one thing to take a picture of a book in snow. It is another to wade through thigh high, icy snow in nothing but shorts, t-shirt, and shoes, carrying a stack of books to get to desired locations. Am I insane? I think I might be. I’m not sure every bookstagrammer would be down to do that.
10. Wonder if the mistletoe thing only happens in movies, books, and fanfiction. Like… it only happens in stories, right? I have never even heard of it happening in real life!
I know this list could be a LOT longer, but I can’t really think of anything else at the moment. But, let me know if you do any of these things, or maybe even share some other bookish, wintery things you do!! Hope you’re having a stellar day!
